In order to prevent injury to those planning to use fireworks or perhaps organise/attend a bonfire celebration where fireworks are used, it is important to adhere to the following guidance:
Do’s

- Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for each firework using a torch when reading
- Store fireworks in a closed metal box, taking them out one at a time prior to use
- Ensure adequate space for firework use, allowing observer’s room to stand a suitable distance away from them.
- Consider overhead obstacles
- Light fireworks at arms length using the correct safety firework lighter or fuse wick
- Stand clear after lighting a firework
- Have a bucket of water nearby. Used fireworks should be collected carefully after use and after suitable time to cool. Then they should be doused with water and either buried or placed in a suitable metal container
- Supervise children around fireworks
- Light sparklers one at a time wearing gloves and douse spent sparklers in bucket of water
- Keep pets indoors
