Highlands & Islands Fire and Rescue Service

Retained Station
This station is normally staffed by up to 12 personnel working on a retained duty system. It is provided with a fire appliance which is equipped to deal with all types of emergency including structural fires and road traffic collisions. All of the staff are trained in responding to these incidents.

As part of their work, staff are also heavily involved in community fire safety activities, which includes carrying out Home Fire Safety checks.

Fire in single storey semi-detached house/bedsit. Small area of fire damage and 40 per cent heat damage to living/sleeping area, 100 per cent smoke damage to building. Extinguished using 1 hosereel jet, 2 breathing apparatus sets in use also..

Approximately 2-3km of heath and whins and a small amount of trees destroyed by fire. Fire crews and forestry workers extinguished using argocat, hosereel jets, knapsack tanks and beaters.

Called to fire onboard 100,000 Tonne bulk carrying cargo ship. Extensive structural and internal fire damage to engine room and accommodation section and cargo area. Fire service used ground monitors & cooling jets to carry out boundary cooling of the hull. 4 sets of breathing apparatus were also used.

A large area of forestry and moorland, approximately 1.5 by 1 kilometer, destroyed by fire. The fire was extinguished by three main jets, beaters, knapsack tanks, an argocat vehicle and waterbombing from a helicopter.

Bin and small area of carpet destroyed by fire in ground floor flat. Extinguished using 2 sets of breathing apparatus and one hosereel jet. One female casualty given initial first aid by fire crews and placed into care of ambulance service.
