Our Operations department is managed by the Head of Operations, who is assisted by four Deputy Operations Commanders.
The Department's primary function is to ensure that our communities are able to call on speedy, reliable emergency assistance 24 hours a day, 365 days per year throughout the Service area. We deliver this service through a network of 123 delivery units consisting of 1 Wholetime, 95 Retained and 27 Community Response Units. A number of these units are on remote islands or in isolated communities on the mainland or on major islands.
Our sole Wholetime station in Inverness, as well as the normal incident response, provides support for dealing with complex incidents across the Highlands and Islands. Retained personnel staff one and two pump stations across the area in our communities, providing a comprehensive fire-fighting and rescue service. Our operational Community Response Units provide specialist resources for dealing with Wildfires, and in some cases, Road Traffic Collisions.
Locally based, multi-role professional managers based in 11 District Offices provide Community Risk Management, Operational and Training support to their designated stations and surrounding communities.
