There's much more to the Fire and Rescue Service than you'd imagine. Most people assume that the Service comprises firefighters and control room staff who save lives by responding to emergency calls. The fact is that there are a rich variety of roles within our Service. Uniformed and non-uniformed staff work together as a team all committed to the organisational goal of saving lives.

People Services, headed by Margaret Fisk (FCIPD, FInstLM), is based at Seafield Road in Inverness. Its primary role is to ensure that the Service is placed to meet the demands of all its employees, throughout the Service area, and the Department is responsible for ensuring that the correct policies, procedures, and supporting infrastructure are in place to assist all personnel in delivering an efficient Fire and Rescue Service to the people of the Highlands and Islands.

People Services comprises five key teams:

  • Equality and Diversity
  • Human Resources
  • Learning and Development
  • Training Delivery
  • Training Design and Development
