Welcome to the Highlands & Islands Fire & Rescue Service web site. The Service is the most northerly in the UK covering a geographical area the size of Belgium. We provide a fire, rescue and community safety service to the populations of the Highlands, the Shetland Islands, the Orkney Islands and the Western Isles. We employ up to 1500 staff who are committed to making our area a safer and better place to live. The Service's functions are delivered through a network of 127 delivery units consisting of 1 wholetime station, 95 retained stations and 31 community response units. The Service Headquarters are based in Inverness, with District offices at 11 locations throughout the Service area.
