HOME FIRE SAFETY CHECKS
So you think that it won’t happen to you? Last year there were over 387
dwelling fires across the Highlands and Islands area and as a result, over 69 people were killed or
injured. Fires do happen, and not always to other people.
At Highlands and Islands Fire and Rescue Service, we’re doing our best to stop fires in the home by offering free Home Safety Checks across the Highlands and Islands area. During the Home Safety Check, firefighters, who work in pairs, will advise you on Fire Safety matters such as the safe use of electrical appliances, smoker’s materials and candles as well as highlighting the potential hazards of cooking. The firefighters will also stress the importance of having a working smoke alarm and will supply and fit, free smoke detectors, complete with ten year batteries, if you need them.
Our service is both free and confidential and available to everyone.
