Two Orkney firefighters who braved the January weather to raise money for the tsunami appeal presented a cheque for £771 to the Clydesdale Bank yesterday. Mick Harcus said:
"It was good fun and we were pleased to be able to raise money for a worthwhile cause. The first car came in at 10.30am and they kept coming and we ended up doing about 130 to 150 cars by the end. We would have been able to do a lot more if it was in the summer time as it was really cold and it started to get quite frosty. There were about five of us from Kirkwall and another couple from Stromness so it was good that both got together to raise the money. We at the Fire Station added £98 of the overall money to the total. At Christmas, instead of giving each other cards we all make a donation and we put the money in a box and put it to a local charity. This year, however, we decided to donate it to the tsunami appeal and we are pleased to be able to help."
