Kingussie History
Kingussie fire station was first opened in 1949/50 on the same site as it still stands
today. Before this the crew worked out of a shed on the same site, and also a small garage
with a watch room above in the premises next to the butchers in King Street Kingussie.
Kingussie fire station is a one pump station, crewed by 12 fire fighters when fully
staffed.
Crew at present Sub Officer Dallas, LFf Borthwick, LFf Macpherson, Ff Mackintosh, Ff
Borthwick, Ff Macrae, Ff Dallas, Ff Thompson, Ff Wallace, Ff Selvester, Ff Munro.
Kingussie covers a large area from Lynwilg junction at the south of Aviemore to the border
with Tayside south of Dalwhinnie, and also west down to Laggan dam.
Kingussie's largest fire in recent years occurred on the 05/06/1996 at 14:57 at the Duke of
Gordon hotel High Street Kingussie. This incident was attended by 5 Retained Units
(Kingussie, Aviemore, Grantown, Nairn, & Inverness) also 2 Auxiliary Units (Newtonmore,
Carrbridge) and the Hydraulic Platform from Inverness. A Total of 59 Firefighters and 7
Officers attended
