The new build fire station at Durness was recently handed over to the HIFRS. The Convenor
of the Fire Board Mr MacFarlane Slack and the Chief Fire Officer Brian Murray were present at the
opening ceremony in March 2006.

On the 18th March 2006 the Chief Fire Officer presented
Long Service and Good Conduct Medals to:
(from left) Walter Mowat (John O' Groats), Sandy Macleod and Paul Murray (Scourie), Hugh
Morrison
and John MacKenzie (Durness) and Tom MacKay (Bettyhill). John MacKenzie (formerly the
officer in
charge in Durness) retired from the service in September 2004 but we promised we would
present him with his axe once the new station was built.
