The Tongue Unit of Highland & Islands Fire and Rescue Service operates under the callsign Charlie 50 and serves the catchment area of Tongue, Mellness, Skerray, Coldbackie and points between. The team consists of Sub Officer Neil Reid, Leading Firefighter George P MacKay, Leading Firefighter Walter Sutherland, Firefighter George MacKay, Firefighter Martin Reid and Firefighter Jimmy Beattie.
They are Breathing Apparatus trained and soon hope to take over their new RTA cutting equipment which will assist them when attending any Road Traffic Accidents where persons are trapped within the vehicle. When budgets allow, they hope to be rehoused in a purpose-built station, which will allow for more space for training and storing equipment.
