To enhance community safety a Community Response Unit (CRU) is based in Spean Bridge providing a Service resource for the local area. Whilst the role of Community Response Units varies throughout the Service area (being tailored to match identified risk) the Spean Bridge unit supports the Service by providing:
- The delivery of Community Safety information and education to drive down risk and enhance community safety.
- An intervention capability able to respond to Road Traffic Collisions and Wildfire incidents.
In delivering the Community Fire Safety role the unit provides a valuable contribution to supporting the Service aim to reduce incidents through the promotion of Community Safety initiatives focused on local communities and identified vulnerable groups.
For their intervention capacity members of the unit have been fully equipped and trained to respond to forest, moorland and grass fires in our region and effectively contribute to preserving life at Road Traffic Collisions.

Long Service & Good Conduct Medal Presentation | |

Firefighter Hugh Innes from Spean Bridge and Firefighter Vyataus Baltrunas from Fort William were presented with their Long Service and Good Conduct Medals by Firemaster Brian Murray. The presentation took place at The Railway Club in Fort William on the 1st July 2005. |
