The current Brae Fire station was built in 1979 and houses 2 identical Volvo water
Tenders.
There are currently 18 personnel at the station whose day job sees them in
careers as diverse as teaching, firefighting (airport), engineering or fencing to name a
few.
The village of Brae (popn. 1200 approx) is at the centre of a rural network of
smaller villages and our furthest journey to assist auxiliaries (to the north of Unst) could
potentially take 2 hours and 2 ferry journeys.
Open Day
In common with other stations in the Northern Command area Brae holds an 'open day'
to raise funds for the Benevolent Fund. Here are some pictures from our most recent event in August
2004:

In September 2005 Stn. O Jackie Peterson retired after 31 years service. Here are some of the photos from the occasion:
