| The Scalloway Auxiliary Unit was created in the 1960's following a spate of fires within the Scalloway area. In 1982 Scalloway received its first fire appliance, this was subsequently replaced in 1989 by a Transit. Currently in situ at Scalloway is a LDV Appliance. A site has been identified for building a new Station. |

There are currently thirteen members within the Unit, ten of which are trained in wearing Breathing Apparatus. Within the Unit there is one member who holds the Long Service Good Conduct medal, also there are four members who were presented with the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal.

Scalloway personnel carry out a variety of training, including for aircraft fires which takes place at Sumburgh Airport alongside HIA personnel. The picture, right, illustrates the firefighters in action at such an exercise. |
