Kyle Fire Station is located in Kyle of Lochalsh in the North West Highlands of Scotland, close to the Isle of Skye. The crew of 12 at the one pump station provide fire cover for a huge area of rugged natural beauty, with small pockets of population scattered in villages and crofting townships throughout the majestic scenery of mountains and sea lochs.
Unusual risks for the fire ground include the railway line to the Highland Capital of Inverness, an extensive MoD establishment which is involved in weapons development, and the much photographed Eilean Donan Castle.
Callouts average around 100 annually and range from chimney fires in winter, heath and forest blazes in spring, RTA's in the busy summer period, and various special services and rescues. Notoriety was achieved by some crew members when they starred in an episode of the popular TV Drama "Hamish MacBeath" some years ago.

The enthusiastic and dedicated Kyle Team have over many years sought to put something back into the community by giving of their time and energy in fundraising schemes for charity. Amongst the bizarre escapades, occurs the annual raft race in the narrows between Kyle and Kyleakin which attracts huge numbers of onlookers as well as participants.
|
Initiated in 1996 by the late D J MacInnes, Leading Firefighter at Kyle, this event has raised over £10,000 for local charities. Crews are also active at the summer galas, promoting fire safety and encouraging children to participate in various games.
| Senior citizens are not forgotten though, as the Kyle crew, with help from wives and partners, organise a dinner and evening's entertainment for up to 80 OAPs on an annual basis. |
