Dornoch Fire Station is a Retained Station, which covers Dornoch and surrounding area, and is also second pump to Tain and Golspie areas, with occasional standby duties as far afield as Wick. There has been a station in Dornoch since the Second World War, when it was the Auxiliary Fire Service (AFS) until it became Retained around 1950. The original station was a garage in the grounds of Dornoch Castle, directly opposite the famous Dornoch Cathedral. The station moved to a new purpose built station in 1985 and the District Office for Sutherland was added shortly thereafter. The crew are regularly involved with fundraising both for the Fire Services Benevolent Fund Flag Day and with various community fairs. A picture gallery is located below, showing the appliances throughout the years and the current crew at Dornoch. |
