Funeral of Fireman George MacDougall
Inverness Town Council were represented by Mr John MacKay, a former convener of the Lighting and Watching Committee, and Mr James Maxwell, Town Chamberlain, at the funeral yesterday of Fireman George MacDougall.
A short service was held in the Free North Church, of which he was a loyal member. Fellow employees in the L.M.S. works, members of the Fire Brigade in uniform, Commissioner Deacon, of the Salvation Army, and a score of Burgh Police constables in charge of Chief Constable Neville were among the mourners.
The fire tender formed a pathetic reminder of the tragedy that marked the dash which Inverness firemen made for Beaufort Castle on Tuesday night (1 June 1937).

Firemen and Police accompanied the cortege as far as the County Council buildings in Ardross Street. Letters of sympathy have been sent to Firemaster Treasurer, by the Firemasters of Stirling and Aberdeen and Commissioner Deacon in the loss sustained by the death of Fireman George MacDougall while in the execution of his duty. The Firemaster, Chief Constable Neville, Mr MacKay and Mr Maxwell were present at the interment. Lord Lovat also attended the funeral. Owing to official business in the South, Provost MacKenzie and Mr James Cameron, Town Clerk, were unable to be present.
